If You're Hearing These Noises, It's Your Home Trying To Tell You Something

Have you been hearing things go bump in the dark? Don’t worry; it probably won’t be ghosts trying to haunt you, but it could still be a sign that there is something the matter. Every noise in your house that you hear should be easily explained, and any unexpected bangs, buzzes, and rattles will more than likely be the house trying to tell you that something needs your attention.

Here are some sounds and noises that can be regularly heard in a property and what they might be trying to tell you.

Scratching

It can be very easy to figure out where any scratching is coming from and why you’ve started hearing it. You’ve probably got pests or rodents sharing your home with you! This will almost certainly be the case if the scratching is coming from your basement or attic, as they are the rooms most often affected by infestations. You could try dealing with this issue yourself by putting down mice traps and rat poisoning. If it’s a big infestation, though, you might just want to call in your local pest control service.

Banging

Have you been hearing a mysterious banging lately? If so, that could be coming from your AC. It could just be a sign that you haven’t been replacing the air filter regularly. Doing so could fix this issue and you shouldn’t hear the sound again. If that doesn’t seem to solve the problem, you might want to see if there are any loose parts. Most AC systems can vibrate, and this causes parts to come loose over time. The banging could be the part hitting against the rest of the system.

Rattling And Vibration

Any suspicious rattling and vibration are probably coming from your furnace. Again, this could be a sign that there is a loose part. If that doesn’t seem to solve the issue, you might have to call out a furnace repair to see if they can figure out what the problem is. It shouldn’t be such a big job, but it’s probably going to be one that needs a certain level of expertise to fix it.

Buzzing

More often than not, buzzing will come from your light fittings. It’s often a sign that it is now time to replace the light bulb. However, it could also be buzzing because the connection is loose. If replacing the bulb doesn’t help, then you should call an electrician so that they can take a look at the wiring for you.

Hissing

If you ever hear hissing, then you should leave the house and move to a safe space immediately. It could be gas hissing and these kinds of leaks are very dangerous indeed. You should call the gas board straight away. It’s also a good idea to call the local fire brigade as well so that they can come and monitor the situation while you are waiting for the gas board.

Hopefully, you will never hear any of these noises. If you do, though, you now know what you need to do!
