Lapping Up The Comfort In Your Living Room

When you come home from a long day at work, collapsing on the sofa with a glass of wine and your favourite TV show or book is a necessity to relax. If you come into a living room that is bare of comfy furniture and rugs, you’re less likely to be able to relax and enjoy yourself. It’s just science, really. Relaxation happens in comfortable, cozy surroundings.

For some, the living room is just a staging area for social occasions. For others, it’s the busiest room in the house. Stepping into a minimalist living room may look beautiful, but the sharp edges and clean lines can make you feel like relaxation is going to be a burden instead of something instant. So, how can you make your living room look inviting, warm and cozy?
Add a little nature. No matter how much you value comfort, nature brings color and a gorgeous scent to a room. Whether you want to have tall potted plants or vases of flowers on every surface, you should absolutely have something natural in your living room.

Swap leather for fabric. Comfort is key and if you’ve ever sat on a leather couch on a summer’s day, you will know why it’s a good idea to switch to fabric. Fabric couches with thick, fluffy pillows and fleecy throws for the winter months are just defined comfort!

Put your feet up. A coffee table is a nice thing to have in a living room, and it works as a central piece of the room. You can go for an ottoman with inside storage, or you can have a scrubbed wooden affair. It’s not the best thing to rest your feet on, though. Why not find a great footrest instead? A cushioned one is so much better as a support for your calves and ankles, so make a point of getting one that is well-cushioned. You can even color match with your sofa!

Display your books. If you are a lover of literacy, get your books on display. There’s no use in hiding your books away and open shelving units need to be stacked with books for a real cosy feel. Think about how you feel when you visit a library; it’s a comfort to know there are other worlds at your fingertips.

Think about the windows. How you cover your windows will impact the comfort of your living space. wooden slatted blinds, for example, will have a very different feel compared to heavy lined curtains in that gorgeous plum colour. Deep curtain colors can give the room a warm cozy feel and also keep the heat in during the colder months.

Your living room should be somewhere you can easily relax but you have to put some work into it to make it happen that way. Give yourself a break and think properly about what you want from your living room. Then put your feet up and enjoy yourself while you relax!
