Splash Your Cash: Pieces You Must Invest In

When you’re decorating your home, it can be hard to know what you should invest in first. Here are some tips to help...

Your Bed

First of all, there’s nothing that’s more important to your health and happiness than getting a good night’s sleep - and it’s impossible to sleep well unless you have a comfortable bed. No one’s saying that you have to clean out your bank account and sleep like a king or queen in the biggest bed in the world with sheets made of Egyptian cotton with an incredibly high thread count, but the fact remains that you should make sure that you’re comfortable in bed at night. Test out different mattresses until you find one that you’re absolutely sure is the one for you, and ensure that you get pillows that don’t make your back and neck ache. Make sure that you wash them frequently to keep them clean of any dust mites, and put them in the dryer with a clean tennis ball to keep them fluffy and bouncy.

Your Couch

Other than your bed, your couch is probably where you’re going to spend the most time in your house, whether that’s hanging out with your crying baby when you’re on maternity leave or watching scary movies with your partner or simply relaxing at the end of a long day. It’s important to make sure that you get a good quality couch that will last the test of time. If you want to get a leather couch (they age well, plus they have the great advantage of being wipe clean!) then you could check out a Chesterfield sofa. If you’d rather steer away from dark colors to make the room lighter you could always purchase a light throw and some furry pillows to make your couch the most comfortable place in your home.

Your Cooker

Even if you aren’t the best cook in the world, you need a decent cooker, or how else are you going to learn? There’s nothing that’s quite as frustrating as an oven that doesn’t ever keep at the correct temperature or cook food at the rate that you’d like it to, so it’s important that you splash out and go for some real quality so you don’t end up wasting time because of a badly cooked dinner that wasn’t even your fault in the evenings. A good quality cooker will give you the courage to try out new recipes for your family and to branch out into different sorts of healthy food.

Your Shower

Finally, you must invest in a good quality shower. No matter what time of year it is, the disappointment of stepping into a lukewarm trickle five minutes after you get up should never be underestimated - it’s uncomfortable and depressing and absolutely will not start you off well for your day. Get a new shower head if yours just isn’t particularly competent and if you find that the water pressure or temperature is poor, call in a plumber to see if it can be fixed.
