Hallway Space: A Guide To Perfecting The Home's Entrance

The hallway can be a little utilized place in the home. It’s not like people spend time in the hallway. But people do have to traverse it every time they enter the home. If you are house proud and like giving the best impression you can, then this is one of the places you should seek to improve because it is what gives one of the first impressions of the interior. What you do to the hall depends on your overall budget, but there are ways you can improve it that don’t cost too much and still get it looking great and like the hall you want it to look like. You may have considered some of these tips and tricks, but they may give you the inspiration to make a change you’ve been wanting to make for a while.

Space Is King

Space is king in your hallway. You want it looking its best. It gives the best impression where there is little clutter and nothing overly taking someone's attention. One of the best ways to do this is limit overhanging lights, like bulky or unnecessary lampshades. To stop this you could consider high quality LED Spotlights. The lighting takes a boost which makes the place look longer and more spacious. Try to get rid of any unnecessary cupboards that you don’t need. Most people use a small table in the hall for keys and the like. Get rid. Instead use a shelf, that doesn’t touch the floor. If you make the hall look more spacious it will look much better. This is especially effective if you have a small home.

Go White

Paint your walls white or some variety of off white. Bright colors will go well with your new spaciousness and be really inviting. You don’t want dark and dingy colors to be the first thing you see when you or any guests enter the home. Use nice and bright paint for the best effect you can possibly get. This coupled with brighter lights will really have a positive impact on your hallway area.

Dress It Up

Place your nicest family photos or pictures of art in the hallway. It gives a pulling point and people will be attracted to it as they enter your home. It doesn’t take too much away from the space either because the pictures will be flush to the wall. They key is not making them too big. Make them a decent size that doesn’t dominate the space but that does pull people in and give them something to look at as they walk through the hallway. The lights will brighten these and really give an art gallery effect. Make sure the floor matches too. Wooden floors are much better than carpet and really adds to the overall effect. It looks more expensive and will lend more of an element of space to the room. Consider which wood you use. Again, if you want it to look spacious go for a lighter kind of wood and treat it with something that doesn’t make it too dark.
