Not-So-Secret Secrets Hoteliers Wish You Knew

When you go on holiday, more often than not I bet you stay in hotels. They are easy to organize and provide some of the best comforts you’ll ever find while travelling. Hoteliers are also super focused on providing the best service they can. No task is too small for them as they try and make your stay the best it can be. However, there are still some things that hoteliers wish more travelers were aware of. Not only will these things make their job slightly easier, but they are points that can help you enjoy your stay more as well! So to make everyone's’ lives a little bit easier, here are the not-so-secret secrets that hoteliers want you to know.

Help Yourself To The Freebies

Most hotels offer free toiletries and tea and coffee in their rooms. Many guests use what they need for the duration of their stay and then leave any they don’t use. But all hoteliers would be glad to see you take them with you! After all, they were included in the room price. So, seeing as you have already paid for them all, you may as well take them with you when you leave. Obviously, some things that you find in your hotel room should be left behind. Linen and bath towels need to be reused by the hotel. If you take these, then you can expect a bill in the post once you get home!

Got A Complaint? Let Them Know

If you have a complaint or find something wrong with your room, hoteliers want to know as soon as possible. This gives them a chance to deal with the issue and fix it for you. Once they’ve sorted it, you’ll find that you have a very comfortable stay! Hoteliers hate to find a guest complaining about their hotel on sites such as TripAdvisor. Especially if they were under the impression that the guest had enjoyed their stay. Negative reviews on online websites and social media can have a bad effect on the hotel as it can put some people off booking a room. So you can understand why you take up any complaints with them. They can see to them quickly without it affecting their business negatively.

Feel Free To Ask For More Pillows

Did you not get a good night’s sleep during your first evening in the hotel? Maybe it was because the pillows were too hard or soft for you. If this is the case, don’t be afraid to ask for some more pillows from reception. In fact, many hotels leave a spare pair of pillows in their wardrobes so that each room has both hard and soft pillows. If you are staying in a plush 5-star hotel, you may even find a spare duvet. This is because you can get winter and summer hotel quality duvets. To make sure their guests are comfortable whatever the season, fancy hotels will leave one of each. So their guests can choose which one they prefer. Ultimately, though, if the linen isn’t to your liking, you need to speak up! Hoteliers would rather you ask for a pillow and have a good night’s sleep than have an uncomfortable sleepless night.

Feel Free To Ask For… Well, Anything

You’ll be surprised with the things hotels can get for their guests. One of the most common is a phone charger. A charger is one of the most important items that we can travel with these days, and it is also the one thing that many people forget and leave at home. However, that doesn’t mean you have to spend your entire holiday with no phone. Simply pop down to reception and see if they have a spare charger. You might be surprised! Some hotels keep a variety of chargers behind reception. And if they don’t have one for your phone, one of the employees might kindly lend you there’s. If you have forgotten something, no matter what it is, you should always ask to see if reception has a spare one. Does your hotel have a concierge service? Then the concierge might be able to run quickly out to a shop to buy you one. Most high-end hotels offer a concierge service, which is there to carry out any tasks requested by guests.

They Can Let You Know Where To Dine Out

If your hotel doesn’t have an onsite restaurant, then you will probably be on the lookout for a good restaurant every evening. Staying in a country where you don’t speak the language? Then dinner reservations and getting good recommendations can be tricky. This is where each of the hotel staff can help you out. As all the employees on reception will be locals, they will have a good knowledge of the surrounding food scene. They will also be more than happy to help you book a table. Just remember to always tip hotel staff for their good work and helpfulness!

For The Best Deals, Book Direct

There are lots of hotel websites that seem to be offering deals and discounted prices if you book through them. But, be warned. There is only one real way that you can save your hard-earned pennies. And that is to book directly through the hotel itself. If you book through the hotel’s website, you might get a special discount. Already stayed at a hotel before? Then keep an eye out to their newsletters. They normally have special deals that are only available to customers who are signed up to their newsletter. Another handy tip is to book over the phone if you want to try and get a free upgrade. If you are going away for a special anniversary or birthday, briefly mention it in the phone call. You may end up with a nice little surprise once you arrive for your holiday! Even if you don’t get an upgrade, you may get a free bottle of Champagne in your room.

So next time you go away, remember to make acquaintances with your hotelier!

xoxo,
Therese
