My Guide To Making Your Own Gorgeous Jewelry!

Making your own gorgeous jewelry is such a fun thing to do. Not only will you have fun, you’ll learn a new skill, and have unique accessories nobody else has. Handmade jewelry can make an incredible gift for somebody you love, or even become another source of income for you. These tips will help you to get started:

Know What Type You’re Interested In

Know what type of jewelry you’re interested in. If you’re interested in it all, know what kind you’d like to start off making. For some, you need more equipment than others. For some you might need detailed instruction. For some, you might be able to wing it and create something totally off the top of your head. Research different kinds of jewelry so you know what you like and what you want to have a go at making.

Sign Up To Workshops

Sign up to workshops to get proper instruction on what you should be doing. You can’t always start using equipment without being show how to by a pro first. If you want to make sure you get it right, going to a workshop in person is the best way to go about it.

Check Out Books And Online Tutorials

You don’t always need to go to a workshop. In some cases, you can check out books and online tutorials. Some tutorials will cost, others will be free. You can find plenty, so take a look. Don’t expect to become a jewelry making pro for absolutely nothing though. Chances are you’ll want to hone your skills at some point, and that’s where workshops come in.

Get Your Equipment

Having the right equipment is important. What you need will depend on the kind you’re making. You may need things like wire, cutters, scissors, beads, precious stones, metal, etc. You can find many of these things in a bead store, but you might need to hunt around to find exactly what you’re after.

Practice

Practice definitely makes perfect. Don’t feel too bad if your first design doesn’t turn out exactly as you hoped. The more you make, the better you’ll get and you’ll find techniques that work for you. You may even come up with some techniques of your own! You can find all kinds of tips on forums and things like that, so learn from others as you practice too. You can even ask questions of your own if you need to.

Experiment And Have Fun

The most important thing to do is experiment and have fun. Come up with your own techniques. Don’t worry about making things other people will like - make things you like. If you’re making things you love, other people will become interested as a result. If you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong.

I hope these tips help you to create some real works of art. Everybody has to start somewhere, so don’t feel bad for being a novice. Just keep practicing and you might be surprised at how skilled you really are. Come back soon!

xoxo,
Therese

  7. That tip about entering workshops is true and it works, a professional has to show you how it's done first regardless of your learning style. And experimentation, yes! That's how great designs are invented.
