3 Gorgeous Ways To Use Blue And White In Your Home

Blue and white is a classic color combination, which will never go out of fashion. If you love these colors, the good news is that they are incredibly versatile. Here are three gorgeous ideas to inspire you.

A taste of the Orient

Are you drawn to the intricacy, theater and detail of Oriental designs? If so, you can take inspiration from this style to create stunning living spaces. Use over-sized ornate vases to lift plain walls and wooden floors. Make your sofa stand out with printed cushions featuring dragons and floral prints. Add porcelain dishes to shelves in the kitchen or place a large serving dish in the center of the dining room table.

You could also use inspiration from the East in the garden. Fill tall vases with wildflowers or potted trees. Create a Japanese-style zen garden with rocks and a water feature. Build a rickety bridge over the stream. Add an ornate pagoda to complete the look.

Nautical

Nautical designs are particularly popular for the bathroom. Go for stripes on the walls or add interest to plain white walls with blue accessories. Decorate shelves with miniature beach huts and boats. Use a rope threaded through conventional toilet roll holders to create a statement towel rail. Hang a life buoy on the door and a portal-shaped mirror over the sink. Finish off the look with a striped shower curtain and blue bath mats.

The nautical look can also work really well outdoors. Paint your decking area white and add striped blue and white floor cushions and bean bags. Hang some lanterns and scatter some candle holders. Drape swathes of net-like material and cordon off the area with a sturdy rope.

English country cottage

Shabby chic has been big news for a few years now, and it continues to feature in interior magazines and design blogs. If you have an older home, a classic blue and white color scheme is an ideal option for kitchens, bathrooms, and living areas. Fit some shelves above a range cooker and fill them with plates, side plates and bowls. Fill vases with beautiful blue flowers. Go for bluebells in spring and hydrangeas in the summer months. Add blue and white tea, coffee, and sugar pots. Complement vintage accessories, such as a hardwood mirror, with a rustic dome kettle and matching toaster.

In the living room, go all-out and opt for a patterned sofa or armchair set. Or go for something a little more muted with detailed cushions and throws. Lift white walls or a whitewashed floor with statement curtains. Add printed vases to solid wood tables and fill cabinets with mismatched pots and plates.

If you’re looking for inspiration this spring, why not opt for the classic combination of white and blue? You can do so much with these two colors and there are theme and styles to suit every room. You don’t have to go all-out and paint every wall in the house white or blue. Take aspects of different styles and use accessories to convey themes throughout the house. Go for different shades of blue to add interest and create distinctive areas and looks.

  3. I like the colour combination of blue and white but whenever i see it all I can picture is my Mum's willow plate china and the rhyme that went with it (20 apples on the tree, 2 birds kissing. A little boat goes sailing by, 3 men fishing.)

  15. Blue is a great colour for summer! There are so many different shades that I'm sure everyone can find their own favourite tone. Blue is also pretty easy to combine with otehr colours. I just made some moodboards for blue :) If you are interested in you can find my blues on Instagram (tibstips) and on my FB page Tinasinteriors

  16. Even thought I don't see myself using blue and white color combination to decorate my house, I love the oriental inspired prints I've plates from morocco and they're so cute I had to display them. For some reason when you say blue/white I think of a Greece inspired living room or something

  17. Oh, I'm pretty sure my mum would go against the blue and white combination, because for her it's too "dull". Anyway, I still have my room (now guest room) styled in a blue fashion :)
